The Word Alive
The Word Alive
THE WORD ALIVE - Telle Smith (Vocals), Tony Pizzuti (Guitar), Zack Hansen (Guitar), Daniel Shapiro (Bass), Luke Holland (Drums) - People can immediately tell if you’re real. They know if your art is genuine, and they’ll stick with you if they hear, see, and feel your truth in everything you create. Since forming in 2008, The Word Alive have built that sort of trust with their diehard fan base - the sort of trust that gains you followers not just for a fleeting moment, but for a lifetime. So, it’s only fitting that the Phoenix, AZ quintet’s third full-length album for Fearless Records bears the title of ‘REAL.’
Over the course of two full-length albums and an EP, The Word Alive have risen through the ranks to become modern heavy music elite. They’ve toured with everybody from Killswitch Engage to A Day To Remember in addition to gracing the stage on Warped Tour multiple times, including a full run on this summer’s Vans Warped Tour. They’ve garnered loyal press support from the likes of Revolver and Alternative Press, to musician magazines Modern Drummer and Guitar World, as well as strong brand partnerships with Monster Energy, DW Drums and Ibanez. Respected equally by their peers and fans alike for their impressive technical musical abilities and goosebump-inducing live show that has gathered force and new fans with every gig, the band have worked hard to position ‘REAL.’ to be the album that truly sees them breaking through.
The Color Morale
The Color Morale
The Color Morale is a post-hardcore band from Rockford, Illinois. The group is currently signed to Rise Records. They have released two albums to date, We All Have Demons, released on September 1, 2009, and My Devil In Your Eyes, released on March 8, 2011. Shortly before the band's second album was released, bassist/vocalist Justin Hieser left the band for reasons that have not been clarified. On July 18, 2011 the band announced they had been sponsored by Schecter. Justin Hieser returned to the band after sorting out some personal issues and is now the rhythm guitarist.

By standard definition the word "evolution" means a process of change in a certain direction. In life, people, cities, nature, art and music among other things go through their own evolutionary cycles, constantly moving forward and continually changing. New Hampshire based melodic-metal outfit Our Last Night has experienced their own such growth over the past several years. Through experience, methodically honing their craft and long arduous touring, Our Last Night has emerged matured and seasoned with their self-defining sophomore album 'We Will All Evolve.'

To understand their development you have to go back a few years. Our Last Night was conceived outside the conventional scene in the sleepy town of Hollis, New Hampshire on the outskirts of Boston in 2004. After a recording an EP later that year, the band cemented its current lineup in 2006 with brothers Matt Wentworth (guitar/vocals) and a then sixteen year old prodigious growler Trevor Wentworth (vocals), Colin Perry (guitar), Alex "Woody" Woodrow (bass) and Tim Molloy (drums). Individuality and shear skill led Epitaph Records owner and president Brett Gurewitz to sign the band in 2007 and release their debut full-length album, 'The Ghost Among Us,' in 2008.

Since 2008, Our Last Night has built a core army of fans. Not through flashy persona, fame fueled online gossip or monotonous scene imagery, but through their music and touring alone. Letting the music speak for itself has helped the band transcend boundaries and created limitless room for growth.

Our Last Night entered the studio in late 2009 with producer Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, Versa Emerge) to record 'We Will All Evolve'. After a month long recording session and additional mixing by David Bendeth (Breaking Benjamin, Paramore, Set Your Goals) the album was completed and ready for release in May 2010.

Exploding with depth and maturity, 'We Will All Evolve' blends Trevor's harsh, aged-to-perfection growls perfectly with Matt's melodious, calming vocals over his and Colin's progressive, breakneck-metal driven guitars, Woody's heavy hitting bass and Tim's pummeling drums. Ripping through thirty-seven plus minutes of meticulously written melodic mayhem with tracks like the furious first single, "Elephants," the indisputably catchy "The Air I Breath," and the bouncy pop-metal hybrid "Into the Future," Our Last Night break out of their cocoon riff by riff, chorus by chorus rising above the limits of a so called scene.

With plans to tour in support of the new album throughout 2010 including dates on the Vans Warped Tour, Our Last Night's evolution continues as the band feeds off of experience and the incessant need to create and grow.

Myka Relocate
Hardships make us who we are. Myka, Relocate clings tightly to that universal truth on its full-length debut for Artery Recordings and Razor & Tie, Lies to Light the Way. Rather than simply backing down in the face of adversity or deceit, the Houston six-piece—John Ritter [vocals], Michael Swank [vocals], Luke Burleigh [bass], Austin Dore' [guitar], Josh Peltier [guitar], and Aaron Robertson [drums]—soldiers ahead and transforms those tribulations into triumphs. Now, their story is all on tape.

As of 2011, the band had become a local favorite in the Louisiana scene. With the addition of Houston natives Ritter and Swank, the lineup finally became solidified, honing a dual vocal attack that's as scorching as it is soaring. At heart, it's that two-pronged assault which separates Myka, Relocate.

"With my voice and Michael's at the center, our songs are like roller coaster rides," reveals Ritter. "You go up to the highest of peaks with real uplifting and, dare I say, happy choruses. After that, we bring you straight down to a super aggressive low that will make you grit your teeth. Think of it like Top 40 meets metal."

Entering Phoenix's Chango Studios in July 2013 with producer Cameron Mizell [Memphis Mayfire, A Skylit Drive], Myka, Relocate cut twelve tracks that segue from gnashing technical guitars into immediately irresistible refrains. Electronic flourishes color the sound at points, while every element falls into an impenetrable groove reminiscent of Deftones or Sleeping with Sirens. It's easy to feel that kinetic stomp on the first single "Doublespeak".

"Lyrically, it's probably one of the most meaningful songs we've ever written," admits Ritter. "It describes how we've been dragged in the dirt in the past and played like chess pieces. It's a big middle finger to those people. At the same time, if they didn't do what they did, we wouldn't be as aggressive in making this happen. Thank you for fucking us over because, without it, we wouldn't have found our way. That's the meaning of our album title Lies to Light the Way."

Elsewhere on the album, an ominous riff kicksarts "Useless", mounting into a bona fide mosh pit anthem. "I had fun with that one," the vocalist goes on. "It's one of our meanest songs. It has to do with people who take their positions for granted, exploit their fame, and have overbearing egos. It calls out rock stars."

Still, there's an inherent bond between these six musicians that drives everything regardless of what the outside world may throw at them. "Every member has a specific role and puts in the same amount of effort," affirms Ritter. "It creates a broad, but consistent style. We literally listen to everything from pop to dubstep to hardcore. There's a smorgasbord of sounds in there."

Ultimately, that's why Myka, Relocate will also resonate immensely with listeners. He concludes, "I want every single lyric of our choruses stuck in their heads after one listen. We leave a lot of it open to interpretation. Hopefully, there's something in every song people can apply to their own lives."
